Join us for our annual meeting!

Date: January 12, 2019

Time: 2:00-4:00pm

Location: Union Hall, Searsport Town Office

Friends of Sears Island will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, January 12th, from 2:00-4:00 pm, in Union Hall on the second floor of the Searsport Town Office, 1 Union Street in Searsport. The meeting is open to the general public. Light refreshments will be served.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to learn more about our organization, and to become more involved,” according to board president Susan White. “At our annual meeting, we’ll take a look back at activities over the last year, and also a look ahead at opportunities and challenges in 2019. We are always looking for new members and new ideas to help fulfill our mission.”

The agenda for the annual meeting will include voting on a slate of board members and officers, the treasurer’s report on 2018 and the budget for 2019. Cipperly Good of the Penobscot Marine Museum will also give the following presentation:

Working the Bay: Maine’s Export Industries

Think of the Maine State Quarter- what natural resources does it depict?  Maine’s natural resources helped build pre-Civil War America, fed the Atlantic world, and, when the need to transport these raw materials to market became necessary, built a fleet of merchant vessels.  By understanding our economic history as an export economy and the role the merchant marine played, we can better understand today’s Maine economy.

Following the annual meeting, the regular monthly business meeting will be held, with everyone invited to remain and participate. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our dynamic, growing organization!
