Friends of Sears Island will be hosting a nature walk titled “Medicinal Plants: Family Care and Clinical Applications” on Thursday, September 1st from 10am-12pm. The program will be led by Steve Byers, a practicing herbalist trained in Western Herbalism and Traditional Chinese Medicine. On this walk we will discuss the incredible variety of medicinal trees, shrubs, and plants on Sears island including native and invasive species. Plant conservation and sustainable harvest as well as dosage, time of harvest, and proper identification will be discussed.

This event is free and open to the public. Sears Island is on Sears Island Road off Route 1 just east of Searsport. Participants should park along the causeway at the end of the road and meet at the kiosk near the island gate by 10:00 am. Wear footwear appropriate for hiking, clothing suitable for the weather and insects, and bring water, a snack, and insect repellent. Please no pets on guided walks. In the event of rain, the program will be cancelled. For more information and updates, visit facebook.com/friendsofsearsisland or call Ashley at 975-3878.
