May 14th: 7am-1pm – Are you interested in finding new trails to explore in Searsport? Do you want to learn more about conservation, natural history, and fun volunteer opportunities in the surrounding area? Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust, Friends of Sears Island, and Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition to Discover the Trails of Searsport!  

Discover the Trails of Searsport Day

Hosted by Coastal Mountains Land Trust (CMLT), Friends of Sears Island (FOSI), and Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition (BBWC)

Schedule of Events: Join for any or all!

7am: Early birds…Join Cloe Chunn of BBWC for an early morning bird walk to kick off Bird Week! Meet at the gate to Sears Island with binoculars in hand!

9am to 10am: Gather at Union Hall in downtown Searsport for coffee and donuts. Each organization will give a brief overview of who they are and how you can get involved! 10:30-11:30am: Walk #1 – Split into groups and take to the trail! Explore Long Cove Headwaters Preserve or Sears Island. Naturalist Ron Harrell will be guiding the walks at Long Cove while Naturalists Cloe Chunn and Aleta McKeage will be leading the walks at Sears Island. Both walks will explore habitat diversity and other natural wonders of each place!

12:00-1:00pm: Walk #2 – Switch preserves! Did you go to Sears Island for Walk #1? Head over to Long Cove! Did you start at Long Cove? Head over to Sears Island!

 

Directions: To Sears Island – Driving north on Rt. 1 take a right on Sears Island Road and follow to the gate. To Long Cove – From downtown Searsport, turn onto Mt. Ephraim Road. After 2.5 miles, turn right on Savery Road. Parking lot is .5 miles down Savery Road on the right.
